The sufferings of European Jews and other groups under the Nazi regime were reflected in their music and musical life. Music offered victims a way to express their humanity in inhuman conditions, to escape from reality and give voice to their yearning for freedom, and to find comfort and hope.
Violins have become a symbol of hope during the Holocaust. Many violins that were used by Jewish, Roma, and Sinti victims have been gifted to the Museum by survivors and their families.
