Scarf Austrian Child’s Blouse
This 100 percent silk scarf was inspired by a lovingly embroidered little girl’s blouse.
Beila Griffel made the blouse—which is ecru, with colorful geometric shapes embroidered on the neckline and sleeves—for her daughter, Herta, who escaped Austria and found safe haven in America in 1940 through the German-Jewish Children’s Aid Society.
Herta Griffel Baitch donated the original blouse to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in memory of her parents, Wolf Griffel and Beila Bertha Nagel Griffel.
