While living in the Theresienstadt concentration camp, Margaret Greunbaum was given a horse pin by a fellow inmate who worked with her in the camp workshop. Margaret worked in the art studio making artificial flowers, toys, and stage sets for various productions. Her job in the workshop may have saved her family from deportation. When the family received orders for deportation, she was able to convince a camp guard, with the help of her boss, Josef Spier, that her work creating teddy bears and other toys for the Christmas season was important enough to keep her and her children in Theresienstadt. The original horse pin was donated to the Museum by Michael Gruenbaum.
